Community Theme: Giant Monsters

Lately I have been suffering from writer's block, so I'm glad Lost_In_Translation has these weekly themes. Not only that, but they help strength our little MyIGN community. Any who, this week's theme is Giant Monsters!!!!!! ROOOARRRRRR! Who doesn't love monsters. Being able to appreciate artists designs of creature of fantasy is a great idea.

The Challenge:

"What I'd like people to write about this week, is about their favorite giant monster. It can be from movies, tv, videogames, or any other form of media. It can be friendly or frightening. The only key point is that it has to be large and in charge! Any monster is fair game!"

This week I chose my favorite video game giant, surprisingly no it is not a Pokémon although I could've easily written about one or even three XD Anyway, this giant is always in a constant rage and only has one purpose, to destroy and kill survivors.

χ TANK χ

What: Tank [Zombie]

Special infected and the most powerful type of special zombie in the games (with the exception of the Witch, who can instantly bitch-slap you to death...) Unless all teammates cooperate, the Tank can easily wipe out a team. The Tank is a male special infected who obviously has some bulky physical mutations. Speculation is the was on steroids prior to catching The Green Virus. However, even though the Tank is extremely bulky it is also agile and can keep up with healthy survivors.

The Tank has inhuman strength. He has the ability to chuck slabs of concrete from afar, but also be able to knock over mid-sized cars (he can also punch tree logs, dumpsters, bumper cars, etc.). He can also easily smash through walls if necessary.

Prior to Left4Dead2, the Tank would focus on one sole survivor, but now it focuses on whichever is nearest. He is in a constant rage when alerted, which can also be his downfall. It is speculated that the energy required to be a Tank is too much for the body. When the Tank cannot find a way to hit or kill his prey, he becomes engulfed in rage and dies from physical exhaustion.

Game(s): Left4Dead & Left4Dead2 (Turtle Rock Studios & Valve, 2008 & 2009)

Why: Simply a giant meaty tank. Compared to other video games creatures, the Tank is definitely not the tallest. Compared to his other zombie friends though he is a giant. The survivors of Left4Dead even nickname the Tank "Big Ass Zombie" and "Giant thing" etc. When playing Left4Dead (either one) being up close and personal with a tank can be quite traumatizing if it isn't intentional. One punch will send you flying, hence beware of ledges. The best strategy to kill of this huge infected is to fight fire with fire. Literally, throw a nice little molotov and burn him to death. As long as water isn't nearby to put the flames out, fire will do extreme damage along with teamwork.

... writing about this makes me want to play TAAAANNKKKKKK!!!! .... a game mode where all the special infected are Tanks :p

Here's a random YouTube video showing off Tank mode. Really as survivors all you do is run and as Tanks well hope to catch them or kill them before they get too far XD
