Buongiorno! I have returned from vacation and am ready to participate in the weekly themes again. Shame I missed last weeks, "favorite video games" I mean...I'm pretty sure I would write about Pokémon as I am with this post for this week. To sum up last week's theme in one word: Pokémon. Favorite video game hands down. The entire franchise I grew up with and share a special bond.
On to this week's theme by Lost_in_Translation which is about the treasured cartoon/anime we watched when growing up.
The Challenge:
"What I'd like people to write about this week, are your favorite cartoons/animated series growing up? It could be a favorite Saturday morning cartoon (for those of us who remember them...), or it could be something from Adult Swim. It just has to be a show you really loved watching growing up. Talk about what you liked about the show, why it always stood a step above everything else in your mind, etc."
Simple for me, I watched Pokémon every Saturday morning on Kids WB. They put the first few seasons on Netflix and my mom could hear it from downstairs telling me she remember my sister and I watching that everyone weekend. Oh the nostalgia! However, reattaching Pokémon I released just how violent and messes up Pokémon quite is. In the first few episodes Ash got bullied so much lol, everyone was like "you don't know what you're doing", "you're the worst Pokémon trainer", I was like geezus, cut the kid a break! Of course as a child all I saw were creatures battling each other and it was awesome.
For some reason Pokémon always sat well with me, it always was a fascination and I didn't get bored with it. Even now, I stopped watching the anime after season 13, so the last season of Diamond & Pearl. I enjoyed those series a lot, my favorite probably being between Orange Islands saga or the Battle Frontier. Ash used a variety of Pokemon during these seasons, so it was a pleasure to watch him use his old Pokémon that have been leisurely waiting in Oak's lab.
There are a few specific episodes that I remember extra well, like the one with giant Pokémon; the one where Ash saves Charmander; the one where Tentcruel and Tentacool come and invade a town; the one where he releases Butterfree; the one where he releases Pikachu but Pikachu came back; the one where him and May cut the final ribbon in half; and a bunch of others that would make this list go on and on. For some reasons Pokémon was just a thrill to watch. I never was able to talk about with anyone though besides my family because apparently in elementary school "it wasn't a girly thing to do". I would see other boys playing Pokémon cards, but they would never let me join It was quite sad. I wasn't able to talk to my girl friends about Pokémon because they didn't know what it was. Regardless, I did not let that damper my love for Pokemon! I still love the franchise today! I can't really explain why this show was better than other shows, for instance I also enjoyed Yu-gi-oh and Digimon, but no show compared to Pokémon!
I've watched and own most of the older films. I got all excited that on the flight home from Lisbon, Portugal to Toronto, Canada they had Pokemon: The First Movie and Pokémon: 4Ever on their list of movies to watch. Of course Air Canada is weird and you can only watch stuff on your tablet and phone AND you can only watch movies if you had the app. Like hello, why didn't you tell us that before there is no wifi on the plane! So I was disappointed I couldn't watch those movies.
That pretty much sums up this theme! I guess in a more analytic note, while I was younger it was a show that emphasized friendship, handwork and courage. As the seasons went on we watched a kid not age, but grow in maturity. On a non analytical note, the show featured some awesome battles :p
